Help your dog to be a better companion

Courses Available

Puppy Course For puppies aged between 3 and 5 months.

New courses start on the 1st Thursday in each month and runs for 4 weeks. Classes are usually held from 7pm to 8pm.

Payment is made on the 1st night and must be accompanied by the vaccination certificate from the vet, showing at least 2 vaccinations have been given.

Course notes are provided and we prefer to have a maximum of 10 people per course.

Family members are welcome but only one person is to work the puppy if at all possible to prevent confusion.

Although the training is structured it is also very flexible and we try to be aware of any particular problems you may be having. Practically every problem has at least 6 different remedies, and sometimes what will work for one dog (or handler) will not work for another.

Socialization. Doors are locked and after a brief explanation of what to expect the puppies are released and allowed to relax and get to know each other. Socialization.

A demonstration, either with one of the puppies or with an adult dog, of how to get control and what can be expected from a well behaved animal.

The correct use of a slip chain will be demonstrated, but you always retain the right to choose for yourself what you are most comfortable with. Slip chain or collar.

Used incorrectly either of these can cause a lot of unnecessary problems.

Our puppy training is held in a small hall in Marshland Road. You will receive your instruction from experienced handlers who give their time just because they enjoy seeing the relationship between a dog and its handler growing into something which will give pleasure for years.

What to bring

Be prepared for a lot of fun, hard work and satisfaction. However please give either a very small amount of food, or none at all prior to coming.

Bring its favorite treat, leash, and vaccination certificate.

A certificate will be issued to all puppies on completion of the course.

A number of our members enjoy several competitive dog sports, Obedience, Agility, Breed, Trialing, Gun Dogs to name a few.

6 Week Basic Control Course This course is aimed at teaching you how to train your dog in Basic Control, suitable for the family pet/owner. You will learn to communicate effectively with your dog and thus create a greater bond with it and have an obedient enjoyable companion for life. Socialisation and Sociability training is integral to this course.

Each week you will be taught a series of new exercises and commands, which you will need to practice 10 minutes each day to become proficient. There is no quick magic answers to training a dog it is just repetition and consistency with showing your dog what you want, teaching it to do what you want and giving it a clear command to associate with the action and praising it when it has done it correctly.

The classes are limited to 10 people with two instructors, this then ensures that everyone in the class receives individual instruction and guidance with any problems they may be facing at home or out on their walk.

The course generally covers:

Socialising skills
Walk on a loose lead (Social Walking)
To come when called
To Sit or go down when told
To Stay when told
Dominance

Behavioural problems such as the dog jumping on people, or digging holes, biting, barking etc will also be dealt with through out the course. Individual assistance will be given if your dog is nervous, timid, anxious or aggressive.

Classes are held on Sunday mornings Marshland Road.

Cost of $70.00 for 6 x 1 hour lessons.
